Since the 1979-1980 season the fans of the Oilers have witnessed the fall of two great dynasties, in Montreal and Long Island, and the rise and fall of the greatest dynasty of all, "our" own.

In 1983 Edmonton Oilers made the first of six trips to the Stanley Cup Finals. Then the following year the "cocky" Oilers became Stanley Cup Champions, following up with four more, winning in 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990. Winning the last in 1990 after the trading of "the Great One" Wayne Gretzky in 1988.

The Edmonton Oilers are the only franchise Modern Era franchise to win five Stanley Cups in seven years. The greatest dynasties of the league the Montreal Canadiens, the Toronto Maple Leafs, and the Detroit Red Wings have never accomplished this feat.

The Edmonton Oilers have been NHL League Champions in 1983-1984 the season. Then Presidents Cup Winners in the 1985-1986, 1986-1987 seasons.

The City of Champions was also the site of the 1989 All Star Game, reuniting old linemates Jari Kurri and Wayne Gretzky.

The City of Edmonton was the site of another first, the 1995 NHL Entry Draft.

The Oilers surprised everyone with a miracle berth into the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs and further surprised everyone with an unlikely run to the Stanley Cup Finals only to lose in 7 games.  This team was largely carried by the brilliant play of Chris Pronger, Fernando Pisani, and Dwayne Roloson.

The fans of the Oilers have been blessed with some of the greatest talent to ever play in the 1980's and 1990's. HOF'ers Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Grant Fuhr, future HOF'ers Mark Messier, Andy Moog, Paul Coffey, and Kevin Lowe. The City of Edmonton may not have been so fortunate without the coaching genius and incredible management of HOF'er Glen Sather or without ambitious and opportunistic former owner Peter Pocklington.
